Last Monday we played at Holland's Radio 3FM. It was the first time we played Faster and Where Is The Edge acoustic, for those of you who haven't heard or seen it yet, you can check it out here.

Festivals in Holland!
As you know we are not able to do a lot of festivals due to Sharon's pregnancy. Therefore, if you want to see us perform this summer, you have 2 options to buy tickets for. First of all Bavaria Open Air, which will take place on August 27th. Another festival we are really looking forward to is Huntenpop, which will take place on August 12th, tickets are on sale now! We will be headlining that day (meaning we'll play longer), you can buy tickets only for that day as well, so if you only want to come and see us play, you can! It will be the first Dutch festival we will be doing in 3(!) years, so it sure is going to be a very special performance. We hope to see you all there!

Rockstad: Falun 2010 is a 2-day open air festival located in Falun, approx 250 km north from Stockholm.

The date is 28-29 May and we are located at LUGNET just outside of towns centre.

Tickets can be purchased here (PDF-tickets) or from the visitor centre in the Falun area here.
We only have 5000 2-day tickets for sale and the price is 495:- SEK (Approx 50 EUR)

BraveWords.com caught up with the Metal God recently and discussed the plethora of activities going on infrontman ROB HALFORD's busy back-yard these days including his latest release, Halford Live In Anaheim (CD and DVD), his upcoming release Halford IV – Made Of Metal as well as his upcoming performance at Heavy MTL II in Montreal on July 24th. Part one of the chat reads as follows:

BraveWords.com: May I ask you about the new album Halford IV coming out in October?

Halford: “We can touch a little bit on that. It’s still in the ‘coming together’ stage at the moment, but it’s exciting. There are some really good ideas there. Some solid pieces of metal, but you can’t really talk about music – you’ve got to listen to it. ‘The Mower’ (new single streaming on BraveWords.com's KnuckleTracks Online Audio Player) that came out the other day is just an indication of one idea. That is not the way the whole record is going to sound. It’s going to be a bit of everything. I’ve done so many things as a metal musician over the last four decades and sometimes you have not an agenda, but a direction, theme or plan. Well, I haven’t got one for this record. It’s just been a lot of fun doing the things that made me feel good in terms of writing metal. The songs that are coming are a real expression of the fun and the great things that I’ve been involved with in metal over the years.”

BraveWords.com: So, it’s a culmination of everything…

Halford: “Yeah, it’s like a combo of a lot of different metal ideas. So, there’s not going to be ten tracks like ‘The Mower’. Every track is extraordinarily different from the other one and that makes it a very fascinating record to listen to. You know me Mitch, I’m all about keeping your attention, making it interesting, keeping you entertained and making you go ‘oh, I never expected that. That was cool. Where did that come from?’ All of those elements are on this new record. It’s an opportunity to put out some more metal and to let the Halford band show what we can do.”

BraveWords.com: Speaking of the Halford band. Heavy MTL II is coming up on July 24th. What made you decide to go back on the road and do the whole solo thing again?

Halford: “The band that leads me in my life is Judas Priest and the

time that I was away from Priest (as we’ve discussed before) that was a big life lesson for me (as a musician). It made me appreciate and understand the value of Judas Priest in my life that being the dominant force in everything that I do, but I also enjoy the opportunities that a solo career can bring and I still feel that way. The way the calendar has panned out this year with Priest being on hiatus; I just wanted to have fun again with this in this small window of opportunity. Obviously, Priest is going out again in 2011-12 and so it’s like ‘what can happen in the space allotted?’”

BraveWords.com: Will you be announcing more solo dates? Or is it really a few special shows just to get out there.

Halford: “We’ll look at what, realistically, this new Halford IV release will afford us. Promoters are all about bringing a band in and what’s relevant in today’s scene. As we do the San Francisco show, the Montreal show and the Ozzfest dates, I’d like to feel that everybody will be excited to see what this band is still able to achieve. There is no point in going out without some purpose or some kind of satisfying moment that you get from being in a band and that the fans get from what you do. So, if all that clicks and connects there will be more dates coming together definitely.”

BraveWords.com: Will the Montreal and Ozzfest shows have the same set list or will there be a Ozzfest presentation and a other venue presentation?

Halford: “We’ll mix it up. We’re in rehearsals right now learning loads and loads of songs, but it’s also the time thing. We’ve got different slots with Montreal and with the Ozzfest. So, you have to be flexible.”

BraveWords.com: You’ve got forty-five minutes in Montreal. Which is not a lot.

Halford: “It’s not a lot, but forty-five minutes of music is a tremendous amount of information that you can exchange if you do it correctly. You can do a great display of what you are capable of in that short space of time. I would like to feel that what we bring up to Montreal, Quebec in a few days will be a good bash over the head.”

BraveWords.com: Are you going to concentrate on the solo material? Or will there be some Judas Priest greatest hits thrown in there?

Halford: “It’s a bit of a dilemma isn’t it? My answer is if you want Judas Priest – why would you not want it from the original source? I’m back in Priest now, so it makes sense that if you want to hear Priest… hear the real deal. That’s really important for me to communicate. ‘Breakin’ The Law’ sounds best when it’s played by Glenn, Ken, Scott, Ian and myself. That’s it. That is ‘Breakin’ The Law’. Anything else is a cover version. Regardless of the fact that the ‘voice’ is there, that’s got nothing to do with it. The Halford band is the Halford band through its own strengths and character and the songs that have been made. Admittedly, there’s been only two records so far, but there’s this new music on the way and I think the songs we put together in Resurrection and Crucible are still as viable as any band. The songs are strong. The songs are workable all these years later. So, that’s what we’ll concentrate on doing.”

BraveWords.com: Good! Resurrection was a brilliant album…

Halford: “Thank you. It’s a really strong album and it’ll be fun to play material from that album again.”

BraveWords.com: No mention of FIGHT. Does that suggest that it’s a whole other project and you won’t cover those songs this time out?

Halford: “That’s easier for me to do then doing some Priest songs quite honestly. I think it’s conceivable.”

BraveWords.com: Let’s talk about the Live In Anaheim CD and DVD. When I spoke to you in the past, you mentioned this long-term plan to release different live projects over the years. There’s Rock In Rio and now Anaheim. Is this the end or will there be more releases from the vaults?

Halford: “There’s so much stuff. We pretty much had cameras rolling at every show that the Halford band did in those years. So, there is still a lot of footage floating around. I don’t know what we’ll do with that, but it’s nice to think there’s stuff in the ‘vault’ (as they say). And Anaheim just seemed to make sense because as we’ve gone through setting up Metal God Records (this little indie metal label) and because I now own all of that material. I can do what I want with both the Halford and Fight material. It was a case of finding its place on the label within that business framework. So really, these are the last two releases. The Anaheim DVD (which is on its way) and the CD which is out now.”

Raintime is an Italian progessive / power-influenced melodic death metal band, founded in 1999. The band was initially significantly inspired by Dream Theater, and as such composed songs which leaned towards the progressive metal genre. They then recorded an instrumental demo entitled Jump In the Past.

After the demo was released, the band's original drummer quit and Enrico Fabris replaced him. Also, Claudio Coassin, who played keyboards, switched to vocals, leaving keyboards to Andrea Corona. Their sound evolved into a new hybrid and borrows elements both from extreme metal, such as death growls and lower tuning of their instruments, and from more melodic genres, especially in regards to keyboards and vocals. With this new direction, the band recorded their debut album Tales from Sadness in 2005 with Arise Records. The second "official" chapter of the band, Flies & Lies (Lifeforce), released in 2007 and produced by Tommy Handsen, gave Raintime the possibility to perform live at ProgPower USA with bands like After Forever, Virgin Steele and Sonata Arctica.

Their latest album, entitled Psychromatic, was released on March 16, 2010.

Psychromatic is the third album from Italian Melodic Death Metal band Raintime. It was released on March 16, 2010. The first single from this album will be "Fire Ants".

Antonio Cerezuela established telephone connection with Glenn Tipton, guitarist for the band, who answered their questions very friendly, talking about things like the original edition of the disc, theirs themes, the production of Tom Allom, the subsequent impact it has had the album, the accompanying DVD recorded on August 17 at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena in Hollywood, Fla., the famous cover of the knife and of course the re-release itself, which focuses this interesting interview.

- Hi Glenn, how are you? Pleased to say hello.

Glenn .- Very well, thank you, how are you?

- Well, well, working ...

Glenn .- I also (laughs)

Let's start talking about that interview re-edition of "British Steel" are going to launch. The group has prepared a special package with a new cover, a live DVD, and a totally new design in general. Are you satisfied with the results to complete the re-release?

Glenn .- Yes, it's fantastic. As you know last year, in 2009, is the first time we played a disc from beginning to end, so it is very new for us to do that, we had some amazing and very satisfying feeling, and wanted to burn it to launch in 2010, when is the 30th anniversary of "British Steel" and is simply a big thank you to all those fans who have supported us over all these years, nothing more.

- Now that you mention it is the first time the group plays one of their albums in full, how was your first touch after so many years songs like "The Rage" Steeler "or" You Do not Have To Be Old To Be Wise "?

Glenn .- It was amazing, and never realized that the order of songs was different in America and Europe. In America the album begins with "Breaking The Law", and we made the order of European issues (ndr. Starting with "Rapid Fire"). We had never touched a disc from start to finish and is a very satisfying feeling, really unbelievable.

- The DVD was recorded in your last U.S. tour. Don't you think of the idea of including material from 1980 of the original time of the disk?

Glenn .- Yes, but I'm not sure if we have some video footage, we recorded no material every day, I think we made some good films but were not able to find...

- The release also have included a documentary about the recording sessions. Whereas in 2001 Eagle published a comprehensive documentary about the recording of "British Steel", what are we to find this time in this new report of the recordings on the CD?

Glenn .- Well, mainly it is the live concert we recorded, in this special issue we have the "British Steel" remastering, the recording of the concert (audio) and of course the concert DVD, but there are some material as you said disc recording, so I really think this memorial is a great package for fans, and there is much to hear and see.

Speaking of new on the disc, and though he was directly above yours, you went to work with your producer for many years, Tom Allom. How was working with Tom again in the studio?

Glenn .- It was fantastic because I have much respect for Tom, produced great records PRIEST and is a very generous and very talented. It was great working with him when we did "British Steel", and was a very interesting hard to do, because as you know we did at home of John Lennon, and we had a great atmosphere and a very good vibe. Tom took over and produced a great record, and we thought that thirty years later Tom had to come and mix the audio from the live concert of "British Steel", so we asked to do so and was happy to do, so it's something symbolic Tom do the live album audio thirty years later, it's great to have him back with us again.

- "British Steel" was the first record that Tom Allom produced with you in the studio, but the first pitch that came with the group was the direct "Unleashed In The East". What do you find in Tom Allom that took you to produce so many records with him?

Glenn .- Tom really understood the true essence of the group. 'He's very diplomatic, and if something important needed to be a producer that is diplomacy, and he also wanted us grew up, he promised much with the group. Initially we had done very well when we did "Unleashed In The East" which in fact had been mixed in Tittenhurst Park, which were of Ringo Starr (Ringo ndr. studies were called Startling Studios, and were installed within the old Lennon's house, Tittenhurst Park in Ascot, England) where we recorded "British Steel" and "British Steel" was an album that had not in fact composed of all, we had like 40% done when we entered the studio, so we the recording sound entirely in the hands of Tom and we wrote the rest of the disc. So we can say that after "Unleashed In The East" much trust in him and established a great relationship that has lasted for years after that.

- Now that you mention that Tom realized the group, it must be true, because really "British Steel" doesn't sound like the discs that came later, records like "Point Of Entry", "Screaming For Vengeance" or "Turbo"... Do you think Tom is able to "British Steel" the perfect sound?

Glenn .- Yes, well, every record we've written has its own character in the direction of the songs and the sound of records, because to the extent that a song is different and the sound must be different too. We never wanted to alienate too, you know, always wanted to be recognizable as Judas Priest, but we feel that each album is a different chapter in the book of Judas Priest and needs to be approached differently as far as sound is concerned, and that is what Tom was good.

- By end of talk about Tom, what was the reason why we decided to spare him for the recording of "Painkiller" for Chris Tsangarides?

Glenn .- In this moment I think Tom left the business for a while. His life changed, it was a completely different stage of his life, he turned away from the business for a while so we use Chris instead, which as you know is also a
major producer of heavy metal.

- Going back a bit to disk (to "British Steel"), this was the first recorded with drummer Dave Holland. What led you to choose him?

Glenn .- I really don't know why Les (Binks) left the group, was a little strange and not whether there was any particular reason for this, he was a great guy, but very long ago and my memory isn't too good. We knew that our next album would be slightly different, we did auditions and Dave fit perfectly, we were very happy to have him, was the type of battery that wanted to "British Steel"

- After thirty years, how you see today, "British Steel"?

Glenn .- I think the record still exists, with some songs as huge as "Steeler", "Rapid Fire," "The Rage", "You Do not Have To Be Old To Be Wise", and songs like "Living After Midnight ", so I think we still have a great mix, is hymns, songs really fast, is" Metal Gods "... After thirty years I think that still stands as a great record.

- How did you feel after finishing the recordings of that disk? Were you aware that just recorded an album so special?

Glenn .- Well, we didn't really going to be a very special album, we knew what we had in our hands then thirty years ago, is now when we see that disk created a fashion inspired many people... So you didn't notice anything, but then, when looking back care is when things look better.

- Although called NWOBHM was starting, I think this record was very important for the development of this new wave and the heavy metal in general. What do you think?

Glenn .- Yes, I think it was one of those records that made you feel good and that made you feel good when you played some of it songs. I think it was an album that invites people to play ours songs, inviting people to play the original drum beat of "Living After Midnight" because it gets into the issue very quickly, and "You Do not Have To Be Old To Be Wise... And then you have songs like "The Rage" which begins with the rhythm of reggae and then enters the disc's most powerful riff, which is "The Rage"... So I think that was an album a bit unusual in some ways a hard blunt in others, which has metal tracks like "Rapid Fire" and hymns like "Living After Midnight" and was a great album as I said to touch, because people involved very much, so I think it came at the right time.

- I also think that after Black Sabbath and after your first four or five albums, especially "Killing Machine", which was really hard, "British Steel" was the first heavy metal album in history itself, and that defined the genre completely. What do you think?

Glenn .- Yes, well, the disc had a really strong character, while other disks were very fast songs or slow songs too, but "British Steel" had very different songs, which gave the album a touch too particular, and I think that's what people tend to forget about "British Steel", which has lots of character, every song is different but fits on the disc. I think everything falls into place.

- Speaking a little more about the songs, I also think it's an album with much variety, and also a great "side A" with the most famous songs (the sung "Living After Midnight" and "Breaking The Law" or "United", the classic "Grinder" or "Metal Gods" or direct "Rapid Fire"), but also a disc with a "B side" very interesting, very atmospheric with some issues to be addressed as JUDAS PRIEST "The Rage", another issue is very straight forward as "Steeler" very heavies and songs like "You Do not Have To Be Old To Be Wise". How do you see your items on the disk? I guess you'll agree that the lesser-known or nor famous tracks are also an important part of "British Steel"...!

Glenn .- Yes, indeed I have already answered before. Each theme is different, every song is different, but for some reason all fit on the disk. That part reggae of "The Rage" fits with songs like "Living After Midnight," "You Do not Have To Be Old To Be Wise" fits with songs like "Steeler", "Metal Gods" with "Rapid Fire"... All are very different, but for some odd reason all combine to form the character of "British Steel", and it worked out naturally, sometimes things go alone, and that's exactly what happened with "British Steel".

- The cover of course also played a major role in the success of the album, and would even say that today is one of the heavies of the story. Who had the idea?

Glenn .- The head of the cover was the art director of CBS / Sony in those years. He designed the concept of the cover, showed us, and we saw that it was the perfect cover for "British Steel", was again one of those things that fit perfectly on the disc.

- Last summer, toured the U.S. and Canada presenting this 30th anniversary tour. When can we see this tour in Europe?

Glenn .- (laughs). Well, we know that we have not played in Europe yet, and I'm sure at some point touch it, see what the future holds... When we go to Europe with "Nostradamus" or playing the "British Steel" whole to be seen, but we will, sure.

- Speaking of future plans, have you already started to think about new album or is it too early?

Glenn .- No, it's too early to decide what to do, and if we may do a disk how would record it and where...These are decisions that we will not take now.

- Are not you then nothing in writing, nor any idea?

Glenn .- Well, we always have ideas about potential future projects, but what comes out remains to be seen...

- Recently in an interview asked KK Downing if he had thought to re-record some record or some group's classic albums. Did you think your in it? How about the idea? A lot of groups do that now...

Glenn .- It is possible, is something that we've discussed, perhaps in some of the first records where production was not very good, one of the things we've talked about is re-record some of these classics with the current sound capability...

- OK Glenn, thank you very much for this time, congratulations on course for those thirty years of "British Steel". If there is something you want to add...

Glenn .- Yes, it was a pleasure. I'm re-launching my website right now, will be ready in two or three weeks, and there you will find lots of information related to my solo work and things that may be of interest to you, will be in a couple of weeks or three...

- Now that you mention it, have you thought about making a new solo album?

Glenn .- At the moment my priority will always be Judas Priest, you know, I did my two solo albums were not active when Priest and in the world Priest is now very alive, we are turning and that... so my priority, is the group. Surely in the future I will write more, but my priority now is JUDAS PRIEST is the love of my life.

- Glenn, thank you very much. I hope to see you with the British Steel tour in Europe.

Glenn .- A pleasure as always, goodbye.

Do not get me wrong but the account holder would be a surprisingly good. The surprisingly good for what I said because after the last mediocrities Judas Priest didn't expect anything good from his singer, no less an album of Christmas songs.

Did I say Christmas? Well yes, but the only issue that we hear bells and other paraphernalia is 'Christmas For Everyone', which even sounds like a Ramones with lower revs and is by far the worst of a disc with many ups and downs.

Rob Halford activated for this recording his personal brand, Halford, after seven years inactive, although to be honest nobody missed him. Well yes, the staunchest fans.

The singer, without any pressure from a record label, Halford 3. Winter Songs comes out with his own label Metal God, surrounded himself with a team of old musicians who did a good job Roy Z (producer, guitar), Metal Mike Chlasciak (guitars), Mike Davis (bass) and Bobby Jarzombek (drums).

What first two themes were leaked in advance, 'Get You Into Spirit' (Imeem) and 'We Three Kings' (Imeem), which could indicate, at least in regard to the first cut, it would be a Christmas album without neglecting the metallic side.

The truth is that Halford has deceived us. The disc has the same rocker shaft such as "Twisted Christmas" by Twisted Sister, but the category of metal it is high in many of its minutes.

Furthermore, his voice has been underused in 9 of the ten cuts on the album, and that's something that we all thought would happen, though, what we expected in the case of a Christmas album. That it may sound to any FM radio.

It is odd to see that has not been loaded at this time of old classics like "We Three Kings", whose guitars I find a hit, 'What Child Is This? "(Imeem), or "Come All Ye Faithful" (Imeem). Even to say that they have been given a dignified touch.

We have a mellifluous ballad, 'Winter Song' (Imeem), while 'I Do not Care' (Imeem) seems to emulate ZZ Top. I sounded out some fans and they do not like. For me it is almost scraped a pass because bears an ugly cover over where the artist looks like a troll. Rob, do you haven't noticed?

Judas Priest's Rob Halford - Real-Life 'The Baron' A Man Cut From The Xmas Cloth

On October 26th, Rob Halford's first solo release in more than seven years sees issue. Entitled "Halford III - Winter Songs", the album is a Christmas themed release. Written, arranged and recorded during 2008 and 2009, three newly penned, original Halford tracks are paired alongside traditional Christmas tunes with original arrangements by the Halford band (consisting of Judas Priest's Rob Halford on vocals, Roy Z and Mike Chlasciak on guitars, Mike Davis on bass, and Bobby Jarzombek on drums). Inaugural single "Get Into The Spirit" debuted at radio on September 29th, it being available for digital purchase the same day as well as "We Three Kings". "Halford III - Winter Songs" will be released through Halford's new record label, Metal God Records, distributed globally by ADA Global / Warner Music Group, Fontana / Universal Music Group, Conveyor / Universal Music Canada and Sony Music Japan.

A new solo full length isn't the only current happening in the world of the Judas Priest frontman. Metal God Apparel is Halford's clothing line, and its Spring 2010 collection will debut thirteen, side-seemed, fashion-cut designer tees with art inspired by the man's music. Issued during mid October, console game "Brütal Legend" sees Halford voicing two characters: General Lionwhyte, and The Baron, the latter specifically created with Halford in mind.

UG: Hello?

Rob Halford: Hello. It's Rob.

ow are you Rob?

Fine, thanks. How are you mate? Alright?

I'm alright, yeah. Would it be alright I began the interview?

Oh yeah. Absolutely. Yeah.

What prompted you to record a Christmas album in 'Halford III: Winter Songs'?

Well, I'd never done it before, so that was the main reason. Where I am in my metal life, I just look for things that interest me, and try to find music that I haven't explored previously - 'Winter Songs' was a chance to do that. It's that time of the year as well, being a Brit, even though this record is for everybody around the world, and for all different faiths and everything. We all like that time around December; it means a lot to a lot of people, and it certainly means a lot to me. I was able to find time to record 'Winter Songs', and there you go. The album's all ready, and about to launch. Have you heard the first two tracks Robert?

"Get Into the Spirit" and "We Three Kings", yeah.

'Winter Songs' is a little bit more than that, but with the first couple of tracks, I just wanted to send out a signal to metalheads that it is a record for metal fans more than anything in the world. The album goes off into some really cool, different places musically, and is a really interesting record to listen to.

Was 'Winter Songs' in the works for quite some time?

No, not really. In 'Winter Songs'' liner notes, it says that the album was put together over 2008 and 2009, but that doesn't mean it was a two year project. The record was just bits and pieces like a jigsaw puzzle coming together. I've been out on the road with Priest for almost the last two years, so it was a case of finding time for me to record my vocals. Also, the rest of the guys in the Halford band had to find time in their busy schedules as well, and more importantly, we just had to find the right material. I wasn't going to record "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (laughs) - that's already been done to death. I just wanted to find songs that were not overly popular, songs that could take the right kind of treatment in the arrangements. Trying to get the right things together was just a long process, but in the end, 'Winter Songs' is seven songs that have been rearranged and produced by Roy Z and myself, and then three original tracks that we've put together. I've been listening to 'Winter Songs' off and on since it was finished about a month ago, and I try to listen to it with an open mind, even though it's a music project that I'm close to. I think 'Winter Songs' is great, a really, really nice record - if nice is the right word. The album is just for the experience of this time of year, and is like everything you do. When people hear the music, they'll make their decision on whether they're going to like it or not, but I feel good about it. I feel really good about it.

Do you feel that people can listen to 'Winter Songs' all year round then? Although the two songs I heard, "Get Into the Spirit" and "We Three Kings", are Christmas songs, you can listen to them whenever really, and they still sound really good.

Yeah. That's a cool... Yeah, why not? Some of 'Winter Songs'' tracks specifically use the Christmas time reference, but there are others that don't have that. On its musical merits, there are some songs that you could enjoy at any time you wanted to enjoy them. Having said that, my specific intention was to make a record that you could enjoy at that time of the year, and enjoy year after year. That comes from my background, when you think about it. I don't write music that's disposable, or has a short shelf life so to speak. I write music that you can enjoy, and take with you wherever you go, depending on whatever mood you're in. Having said that, 'Winter Songs' is a holiday release.

Is there a reason why you opted to cover lesser known tracks, as opposed to opting to cover more obvious tracks? Like, I don't know, "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", or "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and all those type of well known Christmas songs?

Yeah. Those songs are fun, and they're lightweight. They create a certain kind of emotion, but I wanted 'Winter Songs' to just be a little bit deeper. There's a couple of cool tracks on the album, like "When Christmas Comes for Everyone". I was totally thinking of the UK time. There's a very exclusive British vibe that you get around Christmas, because that's what I am. I'm a Brit, and I carry that in my blood. To me, that song is a very British feeling, sounding track. Another one, called "I Don't Care If It's Christmas Night", was kind of inspired by the Chuck Berry type of experience, and the way that Chuck has written his music over the years. I just went into that frame of mind. That song tells the story of how you're struggling to get home in time to be with the family at Christmas, and you can't cos the weather's fucking shit. You get stuck in traffic, and all that kind of thing. I think that's another dilemma we all have - last minute Christmas shopping (laughs). It drives you mental. But how can I put that into a song? That's the message of that track, but some of the other material is quite big; big guitars, big drums, and big choral voices. All the other material has some very, very strong moments musically.

Were there any songs recorded for 'Winter Songs', but left off the final track listing?

No. In fact, we were listening to the nine completed tracks, and I said to Roy "We need another track. I don't like this number nine. It just feels wonky to me. I think we need another track". Roy agreed, so I picked up a guitar, and went into the studio. Half an hour later, I came up with this song which turned out to be quite strong, actually. It's called "Light of the World". We then had our ten tracks, so there was nothing left over. It was all used up. I had such a great time, and so much fun recording 'Winter Songs'. There was no stress, and no pressure. I had such a really cool time recording the album that I'm already thinking of maybe recording another one next year. 'Volume 2'. If you search, there's a lot of material out there.

Are there any specific Christmas songs you would personally like to cover, providing you recorded 'Volume 2'?

Like I said, to me, it has to have some balls to it. You have to be able to give it some welly. I like the lighter material, the fun material, but just because of my background I'm inclined to go for the bigger experience. Off the top of my head, I wouldn't know. It took us forever to get this list together, but I know there's other songs out there. Listen to the final track "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", which is a great, traditional, very famous song, and a song that everyone loves in the UK. We just threw everything on that track, the whole kitchen sink. It sounds like the Coldstream Guards are providing the back up on "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", marching past Buckingham Palace (laughs). That was the fun we had. We treated each track very differently. All the tracks are produced in a very unusual way, and all these ten tracks are very, very different from each other. That's why I'm excited to get the feedback from the fans when they start hearing the other eight tracks, after having had a chance to listen to "Get Into the Spirit" and "We Three Kings".

You made reference to Chuck Berry, so would you cover "Run Rudolph Run"?

I think songs that have already been done don't really... unless you're going to kick in a different direction, it can get a bit repetitious. That's one thing that was always in the forefront of my mind, and that was to hopefully give people a chance to listen to something in a brand new way. Again, it was a case of trying to avoid material that didn't have some weight to it. 'Winter Songs' is a strong record, a really strong record. I've always been a fan of Chuck Berry though. He's one of the great, great grandfathers of rock 'n' roll, and he's very inspirational - still is to a lot of people. Very, very simple, direct three-bar chords, whatever. Straight to the point, getting the groove on, getting the attitude down, and getting the melody and getting the licks in. You can learn a lot from Chuck Berry songs, as a musician.

You described 'Winter Songs'' first single, "Get Into the Spirit", as "a real ball-crusher".

The opening track? Well, yeah. I guess in terms of vocal technique, and that riffage, the way "Get Into the Spirit" starts off, I think it has a lot of balls. It's a big racket, a really strong song. Like I said, it was important for me to let my metal fans know that this wasn't going to be something too lightweight and wimpy. 'Winter Songs' was going to have some solid riffs, and great drums, and big guitars, and big vocals, all over it.

What are your memories of Christmas as a child?

Well I suppose like yourself. Christmas is a time of excitement, and a lot of love between family and friends. We all try to put our differences to one side, and look forward to those three days in the UK; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. As a little kid, I came from a time in the early fifties when we were still recovering from the end of World War II. Things were still rationed to a certain extent, so it was tough for people in the UK at that time. You had to make ends meet to a certain extent, but my mom and dad, God bless em, always made sure that there was something on the table at Christmas. We had a few little Christmas gifts, so I have really, really nice memories. That's really what I remember about it. Even now, even though I'm an old metalhead, I still enjoy Christmas. I see it with my nephews and nieces, and I know what they feel like. Christmas is a wonderful time for family.

You recorded some voice work for the console game 'Brütal Legend'. What were those recording sessions like?

Really cool. Tim Schafer, the guy that designed the game, was with me. He directed the performance. Basically, you just read the lines off the script, and Tim describes the characters. Initially, I only got the one role, the role of this guy called General Lionwhyte. We had such a good time doing it together though that he gave me another character to voice, which is the Baron. The Baron plays alongside Jack Black's main character - I'm like Jack Black's sidekick in the video game, and the character looks like I used to look a long time ago (laughs). It was a lot of fun - I'd never done anything like that before.

Tim was brilliant, and gave me all the directions and ideas. I suppose, because Tim's a metalhead, he knows of my ability to voice these characters that I've made over my career with Priest. Glenn (Tipton, guitarist) wrote "The Ripper", and I had to put myself in the character of The Ripper, and we wrote "Painkiller", "The Sentinel", "Sinner", and "Night Crawler". Tim was aware of that type of sensibility. It was a lot of fun to record. I was at the E3 Convention a few months ago, just wandering around there. It was the day that 'Brütal Legend' was launched. and they had some convention space. The 'Brütal Legend' set up was absolutely mobbed, rammed. Everybody was so excited. It's a brilliant game because it's all about metal - the music is all metal. The whole game is based on that metal type of experience. 'Brütal Legend' comes out next week, I think. I was hoping to actually do something with Jack, but I'm going to be onstage in Japan on the official launch date of the game.

What prompted you to launch Metal God Apparel?

Again, a bit of fun. There's not that many people in metal doing anything insomuch as .... You have other companies making that type of thing, but I don't think there's that many people like myself who've explored the opportunity. I put on a T-shirt, and that's all I wear. I just thought "Why don't we try and get a team of people together, and design them ourselves?". It came out of a simple idea, and took about a year to put together. Actually, it was a lot of hard work to get the final product. These aren't like T-shirts you buy at a rock show or a metal show - they're real, high-quality stuff. It took a lot of time to get all of the right material, and the fabrics, and to sort out the way it's supplied. You have to stick it in the wash for a month to make sure the T-shirt doesn't fall apart... there's a ton of things you have to do before you launch. Yeah though, I'll just see what happens. The T-shirts are cool, interesting, and kind of different. I don't think there are any other T-shirts out there like what we have, which is important.

What I did discover though is that having a clothing company is like making a record, or making a song. It's all the same effort, in terms of creativity. You get the final thing completed, and then it's in the lap of the Gods in terms of how people react to it. We've been going through the business side of it for the last few weeks, talking to people that are in the industry, and they've been very encouraging - we've had very positive signals from them. As we head into the public launch phase, we have about thirteen designs at the moment. We're going to double that for next February for the clothing convention that's called MAGIC in Las Vegas. I'm hoping to be there for that. We'll see where it goes.

And Metal God Apparel's range will be exclusively T-shirts?

At the moment, yeah. Everyone's asking "Are you going to do shoes? Are you going to do jackets? Trousers?", or whatever. I don't know. I might do, but that just depends on how people take to this first type of endeavour. If it doesn't work, I'll knock it on the head. I'm paying for this all myself, and I don't have any investors or anything. If it does take off though, and it does look strong, then I'll bring in some outside investment people. We're just doing things step by step step though, bit by bit, and we'll see how it works out.

How would you describe the design process between you and Marc Sasso?

I've known Marc for a very, very long time; he's known me through all of my work in Priest, and has been to loads of Priest shows, Halford shows, and Fight shows. He's an illustrator by definition - that's his life, his living, his career. Marc's the man, basically. He uses his creative mind from watching the shows, reading the lyrics of the songs, and listening to the music. He just illustrates in his head, and fetches out these different possibilities. We just jam together our critiques, our ideas, and it just grows, grows and grows until we say "Yeah, there's one", and we just move onto the next, the next, the next, and slightly build things up. I'm not the expert, even though over the years, everything that you've generally seen me wear I've been involved with. I've known myself to sit down with a clothes maker, the people that make what we wear, and just basically say "I want this, this and this". I just fetch the basic plans and ideas. I don't really have the talent to do the great work that Marc Sasso has done, so my involvement is there inasmuch as it's needed basically.

In the future, do you see yourself working with other designers?

Oh no, I don't think so (laughs). I don't think so. I should've trademarked everything that you see me wearing, because a lot of that comes from my own head. Some of those outfits cost about ten thousand dollars a pop.

That's quite a lot of money Rob.

It's mad, isn't it? But then, it's au couture, like something by Dolce & Gabbana, or Versace. They're one-offs. I dare say, you could do knock-offs, but it's difficult isn't it then (laughs)? Everybody walking around looking like Rob Halford - just really bizarre (laughs). Some of the ideas can be adjusted, mixed and matched though, and that kind of thing. People often say that Priest was the band that gave metal its defining look. I don't know whether we did or whether we didn't, but that's what a lot of people say. As a result of some of the things we wore in Priest through the early eighties, metal got its distinctive type of appearance. Now, if you go into any of these shops that sell those kind of things, they sell the wristbands, and the studded belts, and the leather jackets, and all that kind of thing. It's timeless really, when you think about it. That's what's so nice about it - to be a timeless experience. You see it coming around again, like the guys in Steel Panther, my mate Russ Parrish. Steel Panther are just picking up the eighties, and banging it out again. People wandering around at Download in spandex pants (laughs). Bad, but it's a laugh. It's a lot of fun.

What do you feel the future holds for the Halford band?

Priest will always be the band that leads me in my life, but I still have that streak of creativity that I need to find an outlet for. That's what the Halford band provides me with. I don't think Priest could've done this Christmas'y kind of record - it wouldn't have been right, because that isn't what Priest is about. My solo activities allow me to do that, and anything else that I might choose to do in the future. It has to be useful Robert. I can't just go banging out songs that I can do with Priest - what's the point? I need to be able to find music and songs that need a solo touch to them. I still want to explore those possibilities. The great thing about music is you can get up any day of the week, and you can find a brand new way of expressing yourself as a musician. It's a never-ending journey in that respect, when you think about it. It's just as exciting for me now in Priest as it was when I first started in metal, and it's just as exciting for me now with the solo ideas that I've got swirling around me. I haven't lost that passion. I'm fifty-eight, but I still have that streak of creativity in me, and determination, to keep working into the metal future.

WildeStarr was Formed in 2003 by original Vicious Rumors bass player Dave Starr, and studio vocalist London Wilde. With Starr handling Guitars and Bass, and Wilde on vocals, As a Duo, the band released their first Demo single in 2007 called "Generation Next". The single Recieved over 20,000 plays on the band's myspace site, and soon the band had over 7000 friends friends and regular internet radio airplay for the tune.

Joined by drummer Jim Hawthorne in 2008, the band began recording their Debut full length album, "Arrival" on Furnace Maximus Records, released August 1, 2009.

DAVE STARR’S shredding guitar riffs, LONDON WILDE’S piercing screams and the addition of JIM HAWTHORN’S drumming promise lyrics and melodic metal that enchant the listener. The song "RISE" is one that stands out amongst all others to me and has become my personal favorite but as I listened to each song over and over again I came to the conclusion that every song possessed the power to paint pictures in the mind and capture the soul. Overall the groups performance is simply astounding and brings chills running up and down the spine and is a must have for every metal fans collection.

WildeStarr from Alameda, California takes it’s name from the culmination of forces comprised of guitarist and bassist Dave Starr of Vicious Rumors fame and vocalist and keyboard player London Wilde. The end result is often described as Euro Power Metal meets Evanescence. To do this band proper justice, I certainly would distance this band as far as possible from Evanescence as the operatic like vocals of London Wilde and the superior metal craftsmanship demonstrated by Dave Starr far outweigh any comparisons to the one hit wonders of the world.

ARRIVAL kicks things off with “Rose In The Dark” a kick ass mid temp melodic shredder with some high pitch notes that will likely drive canine members of your family bezerk. This very well produced disc then progresses forward to “Arrival” a very vocal driven track that offers up some enchanting keys and a pulsing beat. “Touching God” plays well upon dynamics and has an infectious chorus. “Generation Next” has a heavy lead in riff and a killer wailing banshee scream that welcomes you to a harsh terrain of blazing lead work. I would have preferred more uptempo stuff from Wilde Starr, but token ballad “Nevermore” is still pretty catchy.

Not bad for a first disc by any means. I will definitely be anxious to hear more from WildeStarr in the future and I’d love to see how the music found on ARRIVAL translates in a live setting.

Wilde Starr is a female fronted Band and its management says in the vein of Vicious Rumors, Judas Priest and Evanesence. Ok, I can agree with the Vicious Rumors vibes. No wonder if you know that Dave Starr who plays bass and guitars on this album is also the bassplayer of Vicious Rumors over the last 22 years. But Judas Priest and Evanesence ? We will see what this review find out. London Wilde is the name of the female frontgirl and Jim Hawthorne completes the band on drums. After a short symphonic intro the song Rose in the dark opens this debut album with a pumping riff and speedy begin. The first important impression is that London Wilde is not a female frontlady in the line of Tarja of other amounts of singing elvions on this planet....no, London owns a strong and clear rock voice more in the tradition of female fronted 80's bands. The song breaks in the middle into a melodic part and a short background anchorman voice before it continues furious with a unbelievable first scream of London Wilde. Wow, didn't hear a female scream like this for a long time. Now it is speed time again with machine gun like guitar riffing. The second powerful scream leads the song to a longer guitar part before it ends in union with London's backing vocals. Amazing start in this album. The titletrack Arrival starts with a mystical intro and the following guitar part remembers me to Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime. The song comes with deeper dark vocals and is more played in midtempo with symphonic background keys also played by London Wilde. In the refrain the vocals are changing from melodic high in the back to dark in the front. After a short guitar break the song ends with Tony Iommi like riffing. By the way it can be said that Dave Starr has his own guitar style. Sometimes influenced by US Powermetal bands of the past, sometimes with progressive and sometimes with a little industrial touch. Another short intro leads the third track Touching god to a drumpart and dark, Sabbath-like guitars. Mystical keys in the back interrupted from hectic vocals and riffs. This song has definetely its epic moments, but it is a song that will not be remembered like the first two. The next song Rise has that industrial touch in the beginning and continues with lots of speed. The lead guitar could also stay on one of the Vicious Rumors albums. London Wilde is really shouting this time. Screaming high in the powerful refrain . A slower midpart brings her back screaming again. An awesome lon guitar solo ends this song. Down to the sun starts slowly...a ballad? No !! Pumping guitars follow, but chaning with balladesque parts. So the heart of this song is the melodic guitar solo and it fades out with a long instrumental part. This song has definetely his moments in the music not so much in the vocals. The following In this world opens up with typical power metal guitars. Seems that I have heard this before...hm don't know yet. But it is a well known part. The vocals start immediately with dark and progressive metal touch. This song wants to show us our world like it is in these days, so the whole track is surrounded by darkness and full of fear before it find its way in an melodic end. Killer riff intro and a high scream - thats the start of Generation next. 80's metal guitar leads and midtempo vocals taking speed in between. This could be a song from the mighty 80's heroes Omen or Vicious Rumors. Uncompromising work that comes directly to the point. How is our next generation? Track 8 is Nevermore. Lovely intro-is this the ballad of the album ? Silent vocals - yes, we could describe this song as ballad or semi-ballad. The sad, silent vocals dominate, the refrains are overlayed with strong guitars. Queensryche influenced I would say. But London Wilde can't hold it the whole song, she has to bring her screams (that's her trademark, I see) again. This is not a cheesy ballad like from many other female fronted bands. This is only wonderful music with an acoustic part in the end. Mindcrime again? Voice in the silence starts like that. It remembers me for a short time. Following the amazing vocals with all the facettes she owns and one of the best refrains of the whole album. This song is very guitar dominated. Straight forward with progressive elements. The last song The Chain starts similar to the first song in the beginning. It marks the red line that leads through the whole album with all the fantastic, but dark lyrics of London Wilde. The song speeds in with straight guitar lines. The vocals are in between melodic and shouting. Refrain cannot kick like in other songs of this album but the guitars are real heavy and...again...US Metal orientated. A great solo ends this debut. This album is a debut, but it don't sound like one. Here it shows all the experience the musicians got through their carreer. For me it has its very own style and I like the rocking voice of London Wilde. Better than all that second row opera girls in other bands. I think the influences are bands from the 80's, thats Dave Starr's background. But also in bands like Queensryche and Black Sabbath. The veins of Judas Priest and Evanesence I don't see in their music. But the mixture of powerful music and variable vocals makes this band and album as a must to check out. Horns up !!

Vicious Rumors bassist Dave Starr has teamed up with vocalist London Wilde for an album that has the potential to blow you away. Classic Heavy Metal with a hint of Crimson Glory and old Queensrÿche. London Wilde has an incredibly high pitch voice with an impressive amount of power and I wouldn't have guessed it was a woman singing. The production could be better but also gives the album a special hazy sort of atmosphere. Check out the dramatic title track at their MySpace site. Full review is coming.

A very good guitarplay is presented byDave Starr and stretches through all ten songs like a red fibre.
Although the track Voice in the Silence which is a tribute to the passed Vicious Rumors vocalist Carl Albert, penetrates the ear canals and remains there after having been heard a few times.
It is not easy for me to point out single tracks, cause everything sounds like all of a piece, covers the entire bandwidth, and means concentrated feed for each melodic metal fan, as well as the above mentioned bands.

Rating: 6.0/10 | Strange blend of talent that this duo. On one side, Dave Starr, renowned bassist, known for his career with Vicious Rumors, group mythic power metal which also officiated big names like Steve Smyth, Brad Gillis or Vinnie Moore. On the other, London Wilde, session musician and sound engineer for fifteen years.
It all starts when recording an album of Chastain, heavy group to which they are both involved. Wilde and her discuss their respective solo projects, then this is the trigger: Wilde will be singer and keyboardist, and Starr will cover guitar and bass. Never miss this enterprise a drummer, the duo is in the person of Jim Hawthorne.

The music of Wilde Starr, very American in nature, power metal oscillates between the old (Vicious Rumors in mind of course) and gothic atmosphere brought by the singular voice, androgynous and powerful Wilde. Starr delivers riffs and solos with consistency, and have displayed a real talent, if not particularly inspired. It is surprising indeed to get over to listen, perhaps wearied by the lack of variation from one track to another.

However, stirring quite varied influences (early Ruffians to Queensrÿche through Judas Priest or Evanescence), an album that is successful in the genre, but lacks identity to successfully attract the attention of the listener. We can not blame anything decent musicians themselves, including London Wilde has a really beautiful voice, but one can not help but expect more of the compositions.

The compositions are more mediums, dynamic and supported by its very electric guitars ... it was the thrill is so good!
Each title has its soul but the cohesion start to finish preventsArrival going in every direction. A mesmerizing album that takes you and do not let go throughout the 55 minutes, for me it was a real treat! All the musical parts are excellent!

Dave STARR was able to actually build a mature and effective album, with influences of 80’s , especially 90’s , but are enhanced by sound and production worthy of our 2000s? Yes, the mix is really a distillation of three decades of Heavy Metal! Bravo

to Dave , LONDON and Jim for this superb album that I recommend if you approach rather "adult" of Heavy Metal.

WildeStarr “Arrival” is a Progressive Rock Masterpiece! This record contains ten blistering tracks that took me on an epic journey somewhere beyond my soul and the volume knob. (And this one goes up to eleven!)

Alameda Axe Man Dave Starr and Vocalist & Keyboardist London Wilde along with Drummer Jim Hawthorne have assembled an arsenal of music in the flavor of bands like Judas Priest, Queensryche, and Symphony X. “Arrival” goes way beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before.

Why this record is not on the Billboard Charts this week is sacrilege and your loss if you haven't heard it. To be honest, this record haunts me like Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) slithering in a mud pit with Vampire Fangs and a Black French Warrior Bikini. And that’s a very beautiful evil thing!

As soon as I pressed play, “Arrival” came out swinging! This material rocked my socks!

I was hooked as soon as I heard the opening riff from track one “Rose in the Dark.”

From the door slamming intro, a giant hole in the sky opens beyond the stars to begin a wild journey into “Arrival.” The Gates of Heaven (Hell) open with a crunching Les Paul riff, double bass thunder and massive melodic vocals. This song is AWSUME! It is tasteful and absolutely brilliant! The entire record is painted like Rod Serling’s Night Gallery offering redeeming Tales of Angels, Demons, pain, seduction, and sacrifice.

WildeStarr has a sound and chemistry that rivals Mercyful Fate and Dream Theater and a presentation that stands alongside records like Queensryche’s Operation Mindcrime.

“Arrival” is one of the best metal records I have heard in a long time. “Arrival” is like strolling through an ancient burial ground where the souls of the dead rise from out of the dark and attack you!

“Arrival” is all the things I love in a new record. This record is a mover! It’s brooding, it excites and it’s performed with precision. “Arrival” features the high octane vocals and keyboards of New Metal Maiden London Wilde. It’s quite a cool change to go from Rob Halford to a fiery blue eyed blonde Rock Goddess that just rips your heart out on vocals. London doesn’t fit the typical Female Singer Stereo type. She is very aggressive and attacks vocal lines like a wildcat. Until I heard London sing, Ann Boleyn (Vocalist Hellion) and Pamela Moore (Back up Vocalist Queensryche) and of course Ann Wilson from Heart were the heaviest female singers I ever heard. If you appreciate amazing high octane vocals whether it’s Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) or James Neal (Malice), this is your first class ticket to rock.

Track two entitled “Arrival” really show cases London's song writing craft ability along with her amazing voice. She writes story book lyrics, excellent melodies and all the backup vocal harmonies and arrangements are outstanding. Definitely Harvard School of Song Writing and Recording here layer after layer. There are some incredible tunes on “Arrival” and clever song writing formulas (If there were still such a thing as popular songs on FM rock radio).

The title track two “Arrival” would definitely be played on the radio; excellent rhythm chord progressions over the harmony guitar solos. When I’m soloing, I like cool stuff to solo over and Dave does it all. The music is well thought out and not your basic tired three chord progressions. “Arrival” has a huge chorus, and killer lyrics. “Walls are bleeding red light, bare force controls the night, desperation fills your mind... Angel of a new kind!”

Being a dedicated musician and a fan of Classic Metal Music. I immediately respected this material just for its content, themes, and vintage approach. Metal isn’t really REAL Metal anymore. It’s all senseless grunting and shitting out vocals and every song is faster than a crack head in the key of B or E. What’s the point? 90% of all metal bands today have no feel, no color and no creativity! It’s like what are those guys so pissed off about? In this crap ass new age of Cartoon Network Knuckle Dragger Cookie Monster Bands. The true Metal Gods should toss a party every time a record of “Arrival’s” magnitude is released. WildeStarr is a savior. It’s cool to hear something familiar yet so completely different and unexpected; that’s what listening to new music is all about.

This record is analog heavy without being over modern processed. I like the low tuning, it makes track three “Touching God” come off super heavy duty. This song put me in 4th gear and the music is not over busy and solo crazy like Dream Theater. Killer ominous intro and guitar feedback riff here! The chorus in “Touching God” blows doors; great melody. Descending harmonic minors flying for days! Nice touch on the Demonic backup vocals. All the guitar solos on “Arrival” have strong feel and Dave put together some massive harmonies reminiscent of early Iron Maiden and King Diamond. It fuels the material. Dave created smooth, simplistic voicing on his guitar to compliment the music instead of needlessly flailing about the neck from solo to solo. Nothing is over the top and he really milks those riffs!

For me personally, “Arrival” has taken a powder keg to all the metal records I’ve heard lately.

By the forth track “Rise” I was in 5th gear and inspired to go 140 mph down the freeway listening to this record. In the spirit of Rob Halford’s band Fight, I’d swear this song wants to fight! Powerhouse Vocalist London Wilde is definitely the new High Priestess in my CD Collection. She rips out those vocals and devours Pussy Cat Dolls for a snack (with her Starbucks Coffee of course). London’s performance on track four “Rise” made me rise up out of my chair the first time I heard it. What conviction. You talk about pipes. London has an incredible range and just nails those high notes in the spirit of singers like the late great Carl Albert (Vicious Rumors).

I know Carl Albert is smiling down from beyond because WildeStarr is one hell of an inspirational tribute to his voice and his legacy. Track nine “Voice in the Silence” was written in honor of Carl who was lost in a tragic car accident April 22, 1995.

I feel very fortunate to have seen Carl live with Vicious Rumors several times in their prime. He was the most incredible metal singer I have ever seen command a stage.

He was just mind blowing and made it all look so easy. Back in those days, Carl was approached by several major label bands to join. Carl humbly declined and said, “No thanks, I want to play with my own band Vicious Rumors, Cheers mate now off you go!”

A noble response of that nature tells a lot about a singer’s credibility to his band and his loyalty to not sell out. Carl wanted to play with his own band Vicious Rumors.

VR was his war uniform and the guys in the band were his close friends, not hired guns.

A captivating song like “Voice in the Silence” is the perfect way to immortalize Carl reminding us he will always be the best, forever young, and never forgotten.

Axeman Dave Starr plays both lead guitars and all bass parts on this record and it’s incredible playing. He plays solid counter melodies on his 8 string bass always complimenting the guitars without over riding them technically. When it comes to vintage metal, Dave is the ultimate rhythm section. He is innovative like Black Sabbath Bassist Geezer Butler. When Dave plays bass, he makes guitar players and bands sound better. And when he’s on stage, he knows exactly where he belongs. It’s as if he was born standing in front of a drum riser and a wall full of screaming Marshall Amplifiers.

WildeStarrs debut is Dave Starr’s first solo effort since departing Vicious Rumors.

In honor of the style of music Dave originated with VR, I know he would expect nothing less than perfection with WildeStarr. If you take the time to do something, it shows.

Dave has truly out done himself taking his vision to another time and place, and he brought his music to a whole other level. “Arrival” is more progressive than anything he has recorded in the past. I now realize Dave leaving VR was his personal calling to make this record.

All ten tracks on “Arrival” just flow like molten lava into the next song. The middle of the record is just as good as the first half. One of my favorite songs is track five “Down of the Sun” (absolute killer song!) is followed by a slightly faster tempo tune called “In this World.” The verse and chorus are the same and the chord progression never really resolves. This song rocks and unlike the Presidents Health Care Reform Plan, I can trust it! “In this World” is solid, straight ahead balls to the wall WildeStarr Thunder; great driving song. It makes me want to crank up my stereo, hit the L.A. 405 freeway at 3 am and floor it (all the way to In-n-Out Burger).

Track seven “Generation Next” is a classic double kick head crusher. This is a cool song! Straight ahead and slamming balls. Drummer Jim Hawthorn does a kick ass job on the drum kit and deserves a medal for his work on this record. Like a King Diamond Record, each tune on “Arrival” just keeps coming at you amidst ghostly keyboards, choir vocals, chanting, marching sound effects and warm acoustic guitar intros. I’m a Classic Rush Fan and London’s voice tone at times reminds me of Geddy Lee back in the day but with better range and more balls. Very Progressive. There's major kick ass around every chorus! Metal Fans will flip out when they hear “Arrival.” The whole record just flows with no bumps or animals in the road.

In Dave's previous work with Vicious Rumors, they always went straight for my throat like a Pit bull. VR’s motto was plug in and hang on! The material WildeStarr performs is more ghostly and serpent like (think Kate Beckinsale slithering in mud). The music slowly creeps up on me like a snake in the grass. WildeStarr is a beast! These tunes really have something to say. Track eight “Nevermore” is the only slow tune on the record. Slow verse, heavy chorus, and as they said in World War II, “the bridge is on fire.” Dave arranged some nice acoustic string work and guitar harmonies on this tune; excellent dynamics and vocal arrangements. Again, London’s vocals are incredible, and Yes Virgina, she hits all the high notes! This song just cries out in pain with unbelievable feeling. They milk the ending and end on an acoustic note. “Nevermore” sets up track nine which is Carl Albert's Tribute song “Voice in the Silence.” Those punches and that riff to start “Voice in the Silence” is cool! Very Vicious Rumors like and how Carl was as a person. Heavy and bouncing off the ceiling like all the three Marx Brothers. Amazing song and Carl would be honored by Londons vocal performance and lyrics! They say Messiahs die tragic deaths. I always knew Carl was a Messiah...A Metal Messiah!

Track ten “The Chain” is a final metaphor for the spiritual faith that links dedicated Metalheads like us together. As the last song on this record “The Chain” plays out like an old friend sailing out of the shadows and into the night. London just ripping away on vocals as the music plays out. I feel like Beavis and Butthead on the couch after they got their ass kicked by a girl singer. And all I could say to myself as I peeled off my headphones was, “Whoa that was cool!” And then let out a devilish snicker like Beavis “Yeah, yeah that was cool, yeah, fire! Fire!” Then my last thought was “Hmmm, let’s play track one Rose in the Dark again!”

Dave Starr and London Wilde are the perfect metal marriage. Three years of hard work have finally paid off for these dedicated artists, and it shows in the final recording which is WildeStarr’s debut to the world entitled “Arrival”. It has arrived and it’s refreshing to experience new Classic Metal Music of this caliber in 2009. “Arrival” is lethal and really delivers! This is the best record of 2009!

I was in contact with Dave Starr some months ago, then being told the recordings for his WILDESTARR project were completed and the first promo copies for Media reviews would soon be on the way. Having not a single clue what his new mission would be about, it was an exciting moment to receive a fabulous promotional kit with full Press info and liner notes in order to have a generous input prior to listening to (what proved to be) this excellent album.

Dave Starr’s name has been largely associated with the ’classic’ discography of American renowned metallers VICIOUS RUMORS. Holding the bass duties during the band’s 1985-1992 years, then briefly joining VR again for the "Warball" (2006) sessions, Dave has also been credited for working with guitar extraordinaire David Chastain in his notable "In An Outrage" (2004) CD while his was a member of the LAAZ ROCKIT team back in 1983 (the Press leaf states he contributed to the Oakland, CA thrashers’ early "Prelude To Death" demo EP - it’s impressive how educational a detailed info sheet can be!). In WILDSTARR now, Dave decides to record both the guitar and bass tracks while invites a mystery lady called London Wilde to handle the vocals and keys sections, with drummer Jim Hawthorne filling the WILDESTARR lineup.

London Wilde was initially invited to supply the keyboards work for the songs Dave had already written, after they had met in David Chastain’s sessions. Impressed by her vocal abilities, it seems that Dave Starr had no other choice - or will - but to offer her the job. And - to cut along story short - London’s singing is impressive. She manages to combine the Heavy/Power Metal dynamics (many males shall bow to her throat when she decides to reach the ’sky’ notes) with some more emotional/ethereal vibe, while pieces of more sci-fi Rock singing are not out of the question, too. The balance proves to be fine; you know ho risky is to merge different patterns with today’s ’harsh’ requirements.

The music written by WILDESTARR is set on relative layers. Boasting massive classic American Metal guitars - both in the rhythm and leads fields - and some bombarding rhythm section, "Arrival"’s songlist also features a portion of more atmospheric music, surely originating from the keyboards slices but also being an adequate result of Starr’s view regarding enough lead parts and the production/sound. Do not rely on what Press info texts are declaring in general, but I guess this time the announcement is quite to the point, stating "Arrival" sounds like a mix of VICIOUS RUMORS, SAVATAGE, JUDAS PRIEST and EVANESCENCE. Even if the latter band’s quote is quite controversial for the average metalhead’s likes, it is essential to be stated that it is brought up just to underline the ambiance included in "Arrival"’s songs and not to recall any of the Little Rock, AR rockers’ songwriting blueprints (except from the vocals, maybe). Not to forget, I’d add HELSTAR, CRIMSON GLORY, LEATHERWOLF and CHASTAIN as some further bands brought to mind while listening to this album.

I’d like the production to be even more ’professional’, even if it surely is OK now. Else, the diversity in the themes and tempos, the mix of the old and the new in WILDESTARR’s musicianship and the hard work obviously done in the melodies and songparts result to a more than good album. Dave Starr has come up with an excellent CD and I really hope this is not all we’ll ever gonna here from WILDESTARR; really hope. You can order "Arrival" - comes with a 16-page glossy booklet - directly from the band and you’re kindly advised to do so.
